Freed Tortoise

A blacksmith forging his future

Freed's arrival to Eorzea marks his attempt at a new start. Though he fears it will all come to a roll of the dice, in the end...

  • Very guarded, preferring not to reveal too much about himself.

  • His tattooes and demeanor seem threatening, but he despises violence.

  • A little over 30 summers.

  • Deep, monotone voice. Short sentences.

  • Has a good, though dark, sense of humor.

  • Stoic disposition belies a tentativeness around other people.

  • Cynical and almost nihilistic, yet a fundementally decent man.

This smithy, tiny though it be, is the culmination of Freed's journey, and he treasures it greatly. Any character looking for armour repairs, tools, or other equipment is welcome! Those looking for weapons, however, will have to look elswhere - except in very special cases.(The Smithy is located at the Goblet apartments, Ward 10 Apartment 14)

Hooks

  • Need something metallic made? Freed is always looking for work, as long as the pay is decent and the client is (relatively) honest.

  • Freed is scarred and heavily tattooed from a life of crime. If you come from a similar background, you might recognize that...

  • Freed has lived many years in Garlemald, though he tries to keep that little detail under wraps. Garlean yourself? Maybe you and Freed have crossed paths before...

  • Like most Hellsguard, Freed hails from Abalathia's spine. Perhaps another Hellsguard would recognize him?

  • As a fellow Roegadyn would know, his traditional name is "Fraeytur".

  • While not one for small talk, "big talk" is sure to get him interested and involved: Politics, philosophy, even conspiracy theories...

  • Unhappily single, but good luck getting him to admit it...

  • He doesn't look like it, but Freed is quite an avid reader. Maybe you too?

  • ....or are you a writer? Freed dabbles in it from time to time...

Having been a thug and a criminal for most of his life, Freed knew it all would eventually catch up with him. When it finally did, and he was sentenced to prison, he grew disillusioned with his previous life of crime, and the sort of people it creates, vowing he shall do right by himself, and the people affected by his actions. As expected, such things are easier said than done- Freed's large stature (though average for a Hellsguard) and prominent tattooing made the past hard to shrug off. He drifted from place to place, unsuccessfully trying to hold down a job, until he met the Bluebirds Venturing Company.Despite being eternally grateful to these relatively newfound friends in helping him find his path, his reservations about the way they do things meant they had to go their seperate ways, though amicably. He still regards them as a very positive force in his life. Now Freed is on his own again, having established a humble smithy in the enterprising city of Ul'dah.
As guarded as he is, Freed cannot help but hope that pieces are finally falling into place.

In the same order as the Playlist:

Though not as bulky, nor tall, as some of his Roegadyn brethren, he still cuts an imposing figure - accentuated by his tattooes, and his eerily hairless body.He has his share of scars, but the most prominent one is the one earned at the world's end - large teeth marks on his right arm. That said, he'd not to flaunt these features, preferring to wear long-sleeved shirts and jackets - except, perhaps, in the safety of his smithy.
